Delhi CM announces free travel for women in public transport

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced free travel for women in public transport to improve safety and accessibility. Addressing media in New Delhi, Mr Kejriwal said, women will be allowed to travel free of cost on all DTC buses, cluster buses and metro trains.

He said, he has given one week time to officials to make a detailed proposal for both DTC and Metro train on how and when it can be implemented. He said, the government is  also seeking suggestions from people how to  implement it.

He said, subsidy will not be imposed on anyone and there are several women who can afford these modes of transport. Mr Kejriwal said, those who can afford, can purchase tickets and they need not take subsidy.

Mr Kejriwal also announced the installation of CCTVs cameras in the city from 8th of June.
Delhi BJP leader Vijender Gupta has termed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's announcement of free travel for women commuters in Metro and DTC buses as an election stunt. Talking to AIR News, Mr Gupta said, this has been done to divert the attention of public from the main issues as the City government has failed to address their problems.
