Independence Day celebrated in states, UTs with traditional gaiety and fervour

Independence Day celebrations in all the districts of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh concluded peacefully. Jammu and Kashmir government spokesperson Rohit Kansal told this to media this evening. He said the main function was held at Sher-e-Kashmir stadium in Srinagar where Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik unfurled the flag.


In Tripura, people celebrated the 73rd Independence Day all through the day by taking part in a variety of programmes, amid patriotic fervour.

In Gujarat, 73rd Independence Day was celebrated with full enthusiasm and patriotic fervour. The state-level function was held at tribal-dominated Chhotaudepur in Central Gujarat where Chief Minister Vijay Rupani unfurled the tricolour. Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Rupani made a series of announcements for the people, particularly the youth.

The 73rd Independence Day was celebrated with pomp and gaiety in the frontier state of Arunachal Pradesh. 

In Uttar Pradesh,  the 73rd Independence Day is being celebrated in an enthusiastic way. Vidhan Sabha building at Lucknow has beautifully been draped in tricolour making it the cynosure of all eyes. All the other government buildings have been decorated with tricolour lights which give a very enchanting look at night. Security has been issued for smooth and peaceful passage of the national festival and Rakshabandhan.

The 73rd Independence Day was celebrated with a variety of programmes in West Bengal today. The main programme was held at Barrackpore Gandhighat where State Governor, Mr. Jagdeep Dhankar offered floral tributes at the martyr's column. The Chief Minister, Ms. Mamata Banerjee hoisted the National Tri-colour at Indira Gandhi Sarani in Kolkata this morning. A colourful parade was organized to mark the day where contingents of Police, Fire Brigade, School Students and different departments of State Government took part. Members of State Cabinet, Consular Corps, Distinguished Guest were present at the programme. Our Correspondent reports all faith prayer meeting, seminar, exhibition and felicitations to freedom fighters were highlights of the day.

The First Independence Day after the announcement of the UT status for Ladakh is being celebrated with festive fervour. Chief Executive Councilor Ladakh Hill Council Gyal P Wangyal hoisted the tricolour and inspected the parade, at Polo grounds in Leh. In his address, Gyal Phunchok Wangyal thanked the Prime Minister  Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for granting UT status for Ladakh region. 

Manipur celebrated today the 73rd Independence Day with the rest of the country. State Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh hoisted the tricolour at the First Manipur Rifles Parade Ground at Moirangkhom in the state capital Imphal where the state-level celebration of the country’s 73rd Independence Day was held today.

In Puducherry, 73rd Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic spirit and enthusiasm. Chief Minister Narayanasamy hoisted the national flag and inspected a guard of honour presented by the Puducherry armed forces at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, Oppalam here. 

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao mooted the 60-day Action Plan for better living in rural and urban areas by making surroundings clean and green in the state. During its first phase, he proposed to wipe out all unused structures including unused bore-wells and electric wires and poles besides taking up plantation in a big way. 

The 73rd Independence Day celebrations were held across the Meghalaya State today. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma unfurled the tri-colour at Polo Grounds in Shillong and took guard of honour of the passing parade contingents comprising of the armed forces including the Army, Para-Military forces, Meghalaya Police, Assam police and school students.

Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant unfurled tri-colour at Old Secretariat in Panaji to commemorate Independence day.He remembered all the freedom fighters and martyrs, who sacrificed  and laid their lives in the freedom struggle. 

In Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Kamal Nath hoisted the flag at the state-level programme at Motilal Nehru Stadium in Bhopal. Freedom fighters and families of soldiers of the state who laid down their lives in the Kargil war were also invited in the ceremony.

Imbued with patriotic zeal, the Independence Day celebration in Karnataka was marked with the hoisting of the national flag, playing patriotic songs and celebrating our vibrant cultural diversity. Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa unfurled the national flag in Bengaluru today and addressed the people of the state.

In Mizoram, 73rd Independence Day is being celebrated across the state. The celebration began with the unfurling of National Flag at residential houses, government and semi-government offices, and business premises. The state-level main programme was organised at Assam Rifles ground in Aizawl. Most schools and colleges have taken up a variety of cultural programs with patriotic themes to celebrate the day. An Independence football tournament, which is an annual event, has begun this morning in Aizawl to celebrate the day.

In Chennai, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy hoisted the national flag on the ramparts of the iconic Fort St.George this morning. He announced that freedom fighters the pension would be raised from 15-thousand rupees to 16-thousand rupees and family pension from 7,500 rupees to 8,000 rupees. He also said the government is firm in upholding the two-language formula.

In Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, the Independence Day was celebrated with great fervour and patriotic spirit. Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh unfurled the national flag at Jalandhar while Haryana Chief Minister unfurled the national flag at Sonipat. Punjab Governor and Administrator of Chandigarh unfurled the tri-colour at Chandigarh. 

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today unfurled tri-colour at historical Gandhi Maidan in Patna. Speaking on this occasion, Mr.Kumar announced drinking water would be made available to each house of the state by next year.

73rd Independence Day celebrated all over Andaman Nicobar also. The main function was held at historic Netaji Stadium at Port Blair. The Lt Governor of Andaman Nicobar Islands (retd.) D.K. Joshi hoisted National Flag. 

Along with the rest of the nation, Arunachal Pradesh is also celebrating the 73rd Independence Day. The main function of the state was held at IG Park in Itanagar. Chief Minister Pema Khandu unfurled national flag and took the salute from the parade.

In Assam, Independence Day is being celebrated across the state with great enthusiasm. Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal unfurled the tricolour at Khanapara in Guwahati and also took guard of honour. 

Maharashtra along with Mumbai joined the nation in celebrating the 73rd Independence Day with enthusiasm and patriotic fervour today. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis unfurled the national flag at State Secretariat popularly known as the Mantralaya in Mumbai.

In Chhattisgarh, 73rd Independence Day is being celebrated with fervour and patriotic spirit. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel unfurled the national flag and took the salute of the impressive parade at the main function held in the state capital Raipur.
