Planning Commission questions Odisha Govt for snail-paced utilization of central funds

Bhubaneswar: Planning Commission Member Prof Abhijit Sen on Friday questioned Odisha Government for snail-paced utilization of central funds released for various development projects and welfare schemes.
Making remarks after reviewing the use of central funds in various departments, Sen said, “The departments like Power, Urban Development and partly Rural Development have failed to utilise even 50 percent of the assistance provided by the centre. We have instructed the state government to expedite the utilisation process.”
Chief Secretary Bijaya Kumar Patnaik said that, “We have been able to utilise 61 percent of the funds meant for central schemes. Out of Rs 15,000 crore provided by the Centre for central schemes, we have utilised nearly Rs 9,000 crore. We have been successful in spending more funds than we did in the previous year.”
Patnaik further added that delay in receiving central funds is creating bottlenecks in speedy implementation. He said that  the State government has appraised the Commission of such problems.
